FPBA31 MYNN 241518 241518 MYNNYM BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR THIS AFTERNOON, TONIGHT AND THE NEXT SIX (6) DAYS, ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 12:00 P.M. EDT, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2026. THE NEXT SCHEDULED FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED AT 6:00 P.M. EDT. WARNING IN EFFECT: A Near Gale (28-33 knots) Warning is now in effect for the Northern and a Near Gale Watch in effect for the Northwest Bahamas. Near-Gale gust are possible across the Northern Bahamas beginning Sunday morning and Sunday after 4 pm for the Northwest Bahamas. A Severe Weather Watch is now in effect for the Northwest, Central and Southeast Bahamas, as well as the Turks and Caicos Islands. Please see our latest Special Weather Statement regarding strong winds and dangerous seas affecting the Bahamas beginning today. GENERAL SITUATION: A low pressure system near the Southeast Bahamas, combined with the deep layered troughing and streaming moisture over the Central Bahamas, will continue to produce widespread showers and thunderstorms over the Northwest, Central and Southeast Bahamas through tonight. Outlook: The low-pressure system is expected to move northward on Sunday, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms across the Bahamas through early next week. A strengthening pressure gradient over the northern islands will result in increasing winds on Sunday, with gale to near-gale conditions possible across the Northern and Northwest Bahamas. The system is forecast to move eastward into the Atlantic by midweek, pulling much of the moisture away from the island chain. Hazardous marine conditions are expected to develop along Atlantic-facing waters on Sunday, beginning in the Northern Bahamas before spreading across the remaining islands by Monday. Drier conditions should return to the Northern, Northwest and Central Bahamas by midweek, although showers may linger over the southern islands. SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES: Rip Currents: There is a high risk of dangerous, life-threatening rip currents across all waters including Atlantic coastlines of the island chain. Beachgoers, particularly those in the Northern and Northwest Bahamas, should refrain from entering the waters. Flooding: There is a high risk of flooding across the Central and Southeast Bahamas during heavy or prolonged rainfall periods especially in low lying, flood prone and areas already inundated with water.
